In Turkmenistan's Dashoguz velayat, rice farmers are gearing up for an ambitious agricultural season ahead, with vast areas now dedicated to rice farming. Local producers are focused on significantly boosting their yields and enhancing the nation's food security by 2026.
The leading hub for rice cultivation in the region remains the Saparmyrat Turkmenbashy etrap. Here, farmers have built a rich legacy of cultivating top-quality rice and honing their skills in managing expansive paddy fields that thrive under local climatic conditions.
This year, the daikhan association “S.A. Nyýazow” has earmarked around 4,300 hectares for rice production, while the “27 Oktyabr” daikhan association contributes an additional 3,000 hectares. Together, these key agricultural entities are seen as essential to fulfilling the region's production objectives.
The role of the private sector is on the rise, with the “Ykbal açarý” Economic Society reserving 800 hectares for this season's rice cultivation. This showcases the increasing engagement of private farmers in bolstering the nation's food production capabilities. Officials are optimistic that the collaboration between state-supported and private agriculturalists will elevate overall farming performance.
Once again, farmers are opting for the Nöküs-2 rice variety as their main crop. This variety has thrived in the region for years, prized for its resilience to local weather conditions as well as its ability to deliver impressive yields along with excellent grain quality and taste.
The region's agricultural prosperity is further bolstered by cutting-edge farming machinery and extensive experience. Access to specialized equipment contributes to efficient planting, irrigation, and harvesting, enhancing productivity and alleviating challenges during the growing phase.
A modern rice processing facility located near these cultivation zones plays a crucial role in this industry. This facility ensures the harvested grains are swiftly and effectively cleaned, processed, and prepared for market. With robust infrastructure, skilled farmers, and favorable cultivation conditions, Dashoguz rice producers are optimistic about achieving another fruitful harvest, thereby significantly contributing to Turkmenistan’s agricultural sector.
