The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has collaborated with ŌURA, the creators of the renowned Oura Ring smart wearable device, to initiate a groundbreaking research project targeting preventive healthcare and women's health.
This collaboration aims to explore how continuous data from wearables can assist healthcare professionals in identifying health risks sooner and tailoring care accordingly. This initiative is part of a long-term strategy aligned with Abu Dhabi's objective of fostering a prevention-oriented and data-centric healthcare environment.
Initial efforts will zero in on women's health, particularly areas such as preconception, pregnancy management, and cardiometabolic issues including obesity, prediabetes, and heart disease.
The partnership seeks to leverage Abu Dhabi's robust public health framework and extensive health data, combined with real-time information from ŌURA's wearable technology. Officials believe this approach will enable researchers to gain insights into disease progression and facilitate quicker, more individualized medical responses.
His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the DoH – Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the future of healthcare rests on real-time monitoring at the population level. He pointed out that Abu Dhabi has made significant strides in establishing a smart health system that will support this evolution.
He highlighted that advancing women's health and fertility remains a priority for Abu Dhabi, noting that the collaboration with ŌURA promises to enhance care for mothers and families via early detection of risk factors and tailored healthcare options.
Tom Hale, CEO of ŌURA, remarked that Abu Dhabi is setting a global standard for how technology can be harnessed to enhance preventive healthcare. He mentioned that the partnership is rooted in scientific research, commitment to data privacy, and long-term health objectives.
Hale pointed out that the project will initially focus on women’s health because healthier women contribute to healthier families and communities. He remarked that the ultimate aim is to devise a healthcare framework that could potentially serve preventive care systems around the world.
The collaboration will adhere to stringent data privacy protocols. Officials have pledged that all health-related data will be securely managed and shared only with user consent, in line with UAE laws and global standards. All identifiable information will be safeguarded under rigorous ethical and regulatory guidelines.
Upcoming stages of the initiative will include pilot studies, ethical reviews, and local medical research aimed at enabling broader integration into Abu Dhabi's healthcare system in the future.
This agreement also represents a significant milestone in ŌURA’s growth trajectory in the UAE and broader Gulf region, as the company fortifies its footprint through research collaborations and healthcare innovation efforts.
