Toronto McDonald’s Video Shows Alleged Racist Assault on Indian Man

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A troubling clip recorded in Toronto has renewed worries about rising racism and xenophobia in Canada after an apparently intoxicated individual is seen assaulting a man believed to be of Indian origin inside a McDonald’s outlet.

The viral footage shows a white man in a Toronto Blue Jays jacket approaching the man near the ‘Mobile Order Pick Up’ counter and launching an unprovoked attack.

In the clip the assailant shoves the victim, causing his phone to drop. When the victim stoops to retrieve it, the attacker seizes his collar and pushes him again, accusing him of “acting superior” while the victim remains calm and does not fight back.

The confrontation escalated until a bystander—likely a McDonald’s employee—stepped in and told both men to move the dispute outside. Even after being escorted out, the alleged assailant kept shouting accusations and making racially charged comments.

Toronto Police have not released an official statement and neither individual's identity has been confirmed. Local reports indicate the incident occurred on November 1.

The clip has provoked widespread anger online, with users calling for firm measures against hate-fueled violence. It follows a recent fatal assault in Edmonton, in which 55-year-old Canadian-Indian businessman Arvi Singh Sagoo died on October 24 after being attacked days earlier when he confronted a man for urinating on his car.

Together these incidents have heightened fears within Canada’s South Asian communities about escalating racial hostility and underscored calls for better protections and enforcement against hate crimes.
