India Secure First ICC Women’s World Cup; Harmanpreet Embraces Father

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Mumbai, November 4, 2025: In a historic night at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India clinched its first ICC Women’s World Cup title. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the side to a 52-run win over South Africa to claim the trophy.

Electing to bat, India put up 298 for 7 in their 50 overs through calculated partnerships and assertive batting. South Africa mounted a fightback but were dismissed for 246, leaving India to celebrate a landmark victory.

The win reflected years of commitment and resilience. Emotions ran high when the final wicket fell, and the most poignant image from the ground was Harmanpreet running into the arms of her father, Harmander Singh Bhullar — a moment that quickly spread across social media.

Harmander, who played sports in Punjab and coached his daughter in her early years, has been a central figure in her rise. Their embrace underlined the family sacrifices behind elite performance.

Following the match, the Indian team paid tribute to past stalwarts by presenting the trophy to Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami in a mark of respect for their contributions to the game.

An emotional Harmanpreet dedicated the triumph to those who guided her, saying, “Jhulan Di supported me from the start when I was still learning. Mithali Di and Anjum Chopra also helped shape my journey. I’m proud we could share this moment with them.”

The victory is being hailed as a turning point for women’s cricket in India. As celebrations lit up the Mumbai skyline and fans rejoiced nationwide, the achievement confirmed the team’s arrival at the sport’s highest level.
