Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has collaborated with the Thai SME Federation to bolster the agricultural processing sector, aiming to boost farmers’ incomes and enhance the presence of Thai agricultural goods in global markets. This initiative is centered on leveraging modern technology and innovative practices to rejuvenate the agricultural landscape and foster sustainable economic progress.
Agriculture Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit noted that high-level discussions were held in Bangkok with representatives from the Thai SME Federation, where strategies were outlined to assist agricultural entrepreneurs and small enterprises. The conversations focused on improving the value of agricultural outputs via processing, raising product quality, and enhancing both domestic and international market accessibility.
The ministry prioritizes the enhancement of agricultural SMEs alongside smallholder farmers. Plans are underway to expedite initiatives aimed at lowering production costs and boosting incomes through contemporary farming techniques, including precision agriculture, effective fertilizer use, and alternative energy applications.
Officials emphasized that developing agricultural processing sectors is key to providing more stable incomes for farmers and local startups, while also improving the competitiveness of Thai products on the global stage. The ministry advocates for greater collaboration among government entities, the private sector, and SME networks to enhance trade prospects and promote sustainable rural economic development.
Thai SME Federation President Dr. Napapong Teerawor expressed optimism regarding the government's agricultural initiatives and affirmed the federation’s commitment to supporting these efforts. He emphasized that modernizing agriculture would bolster Thailand’s economy and deliver lasting advantages to farmers and small businesses nationwide.
The federation aims to aid entrepreneurs and farmers in four primary domains: technology transfer, elevating product standards, broadening market access, both offline and online, and enhancing funding availability. Officials are confident these strategies will improve business liquidity and competitiveness in international markets.
Dr. Napapong further indicated that the federation stands ready to assist more entrepreneurs in adopting standardized processing systems while promoting Thai agricultural exports globally. Strengthening cooperative networks between farmers and SMEs is also a goal to encourage innovation and promote sustainable development within the grassroots economy across Thailand.
Government officials highlighted that this initiative supports Thailand’s overarching mission to increase agricultural product value, fortify rural communities, and cultivate a more resilient and competitive economy through technology-based advancements.
