Wolves Remove Coach Pereira After Poor Premier League Run

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially dismissed their Portuguese manager, Vitor Pereira, following a series of disappointing results that left the team struggling at the bottom of the table. The decision was announced by the club on Sunday after Wolves failed to secure a single win in their first ten matches of the 2025 Premier League season.

Under Pereira’s leadership, Wolverhampton endured a poor start to the campaign, recording only two points from ten league games. The team’s performances lacked the consistency and creativity needed to compete effectively, leaving fans frustrated and management under pressure. The 3–0 loss to Fulham on Saturday became the final straw for club officials, who decided that a managerial change was necessary to revive the team’s season.

Vitor Pereira, who took charge earlier this year, had joined Wolverhampton with hopes of bringing stability and renewed energy to the squad. However, his tactical approach failed to produce results in the highly competitive English top flight. Despite having talented players in the lineup, the team struggled to find rhythm both in attack and defense. The inability to secure victories, especially against newly promoted teams, highlighted the club’s deteriorating form and lack of confidence on the field.

The defeat against Fulham in Matchweek 10 showcased the team’s ongoing issues. Wolves were unable to create meaningful scoring opportunities, while defensive errors cost them dearly. Fans watching at Molineux Stadium expressed disappointment as the team’s tenth game without a win marked one of their worst starts to a Premier League season in recent years. The result pushed the club’s management to act swiftly, ending Pereira’s reign in hopes of preventing further decline.

Following Pereira’s dismissal, Wolverhampton announced that James Collins, coach of the Under-21 team, and Richard Walker, coach of the Under-18 team, would temporarily take charge of the first team. The pair are expected to oversee training sessions and match preparations while the club begins its search for a new permanent manager. Both Collins and Walker are experienced within the club’s youth development system and are familiar with many of the senior players, offering short-term stability during this transition.

In an official statement, the club expressed gratitude to Vitor Pereira for his efforts and professionalism during his time in charge, but acknowledged that change was necessary to improve results. Wolverhampton’s management also assured fans that finding the right replacement is their top priority. The club aims to appoint a manager capable of motivating the players, strengthening team spirit, and steering Wolves away from the relegation zone.

Supporters have reacted to the news with a mix of relief and anticipation. Many fans believe that the change was inevitable given the team’s performance, and they now look forward to a new direction under fresh leadership. Social media platforms were filled with discussions about potential replacements, with fans calling for a manager who can bring back attacking football and restore the club’s fighting identity.

For Wolverhampton, the coming weeks will be crucial. With several difficult fixtures ahead, the interim coaching duo of Collins and Walker will have to make quick adjustments to boost morale and performance. The team’s immediate goal is to secure a much-needed victory to lift confidence and begin climbing the Premier League standings.

As the club begins the process of identifying a new head coach, fans and players alike hope that the change will mark the beginning of a more positive chapter. Wolverhampton remains determined to overcome its early-season struggles and prove its resilience in the world’s most competitive football league.
