A team from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) participated in a donor delegation from the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF) on Tuesday. The visit focused on projects supporting maternal, newborn, and child health services in Tajikistan’s Khatlon Province. KSrelief contributes to these projects under the Islamic Development Bank, aiming to improve health care for mothers and children in the region.
Visiting Upgraded Health Center
During the field visit, the delegation inspected the upgraded health center in Khatlon Province. The center has received new medical equipment and renovated patient wards, greatly improving the quality of health services. These upgrades have increased antenatal care coverage from 50% to 70%, ensuring that more expectant mothers receive essential medical attention before delivery.
Supporting Safe Deliveries
The improvements at the health center have supported more than 1,500 safe deliveries. The delegation saw firsthand how the upgraded facilities help mothers and newborns receive proper care. This has led to a noticeable improvement in maternal and child health outcomes in the province, providing hope and security for families in the area.
Delegation Attended Conference
Following the field visit, the delegation took part in a conference held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital. The conference was attended by government leaders, fund partners, development actors, and technical experts. Saudi Ambassador to Tajikistan, Waleed Alreshaidan, was also present. The conference provided a platform to celebrate achievements, share lessons learned, and discuss strategies to further improve maternal, newborn, and child health in Tajikistan.
Highlighting Project Achievements
At the conference, the delegation highlighted the progress made through collaborative efforts. The project has significantly enhanced maternal and child health services, reducing risks during pregnancy and childbirth. By sharing these achievements, KSrelief and partner organizations aimed to demonstrate the positive impact of coordinated humanitarian and development efforts in the country.
Importance of Collaboration
KSrelief Assistant Supervisor-General for Operations and Programs, Eng. Ahmed Al-Baiz, emphasized the value of working together with local governments and international partners. He stated that such collaboration leads to real, measurable improvements in the lives of mothers, newborns, and children. By combining resources, expertise, and commitment, projects can achieve greater success and ensure that more families receive the care they need.
Improving Maternal Health
Maternal health has been a key focus of this project. With improved facilities, trained medical staff, and better equipment, pregnant women now have access to essential services. This includes regular check-ups, safe delivery procedures, and postnatal care, which collectively contribute to healthier mothers and babies in Khatlon Province.
Enhancing Newborn Care
The project has also focused on newborn care, ensuring that infants receive immediate attention after birth. Vaccinations, screenings, and early health interventions are now more accessible. This has helped reduce complications and infant mortality rates, supporting the overall well-being of children in the region.
Training and Capacity Building
As part of the project, medical staff received additional training to enhance their skills in maternal and child health care. This capacity building ensures that local health workers are equipped to provide high-quality services and respond to emergencies effectively. Trained staff play a crucial role in maintaining the sustainability of the improvements introduced by the project.
Positive Impact on Families
The improvements at the health center and the success of the project have had a direct positive impact on families. Expectant mothers feel safer and more confident receiving care, while families know that newborns are being well looked after. This has increased trust in local health services and strengthened community support for ongoing development initiatives.
Future Plans and Next Steps
During the conference, participants outlined next steps to continue progress in maternal, newborn, and child health. These include expanding services to other areas, enhancing medical equipment, and strengthening community outreach programs. KSrelief and its partners plan to monitor progress closely and ensure that the benefits of the project reach as many people as possible.
Recognizing the Role of Partners
The success of the project highlights the importance of partnerships. KSrelief, LLF, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Tajik government have worked together to ensure that resources are used efficiently. Each partner has played a key role, from funding and technical support to providing local expertise and guidance.
Celebrating Achievements
The conference provided an opportunity to celebrate the positive outcomes of the project. By improving maternal and child health services, thousands of lives have been positively affected. The achievements demonstrate that strategic investments and cooperation can create long-lasting benefits for communities, particularly in regions facing health challenges.
KSrelief’s Commitment
Eng. Ahmed Al-Baiz reaffirmed KSrelief’s commitment to supporting projects that improve health care and the quality of life for vulnerable populations. He noted that this project in Khatlon Province serves as a model for future initiatives, proving that well-coordinated efforts can bring meaningful and sustainable change.
Strengthening Health Systems
Beyond immediate improvements, the project aims to strengthen the overall health system in Tajikistan. By upgrading infrastructure, providing modern medical equipment, and training personnel, the initiative contributes to a more robust and responsive health system. This helps ensure that high-quality care continues even after the initial project is completed.
Promoting Sustainable Development
The project also supports broader development goals. By improving maternal, newborn, and child health, it contributes to better education outcomes, economic productivity, and overall community well-being. Healthy mothers and children are essential for sustainable development, making this project a key component of regional growth and stability.
KSrelief’s participation in the LLF donor delegation and its support for maternal, newborn, and child health projects in Tajikistan illustrate the center’s commitment to humanitarian aid and development. Through collaboration, improved facilities, and training, the project has strengthened health care services, benefited thousands of families, and set an example of successful international partnership. The efforts in Khatlon Province demonstrate that targeted, cooperative action can create lasting positive change in the lives of mothers and children.
