Saudi Arabia, Burundi Boost Cooperation on Islamic Affairs

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

In Jeddah, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Sheikh Abdullatif Al Alsheikh, welcomed the Grand Mufti of the Republic of Burundi, Sheikh Nayabagabo Salum. The meeting aimed to strengthen partnership and deepen cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Burundi in the field of Islamic affairs. This important interaction highlights Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to supporting Muslim communities around the world and promoting unity, understanding, and peaceful religious practices.

During their conversation, both leaders explored several topics of shared interest. A major part of the discussion focused on improving support for dawah activities in Burundi. Dawah programs aim to spread the peaceful message of Islam, guide communities with knowledge, and encourage positive values among Muslims. The Saudi side expressed readiness to continue offering experience, training, and necessary resources to strengthen these programs. This support is especially important for countries looking to develop sustainable religious education systems.

Another key point in the meeting was the importance of promoting the values of moderation and tolerance. These principles form the foundation of balanced Islamic teachings and help build peaceful, stable societies. Saudi Arabia places strong emphasis on sharing these values globally through various programs and partnerships. The Grand Mufti of Burundi praised these efforts and acknowledged their positive impact on Muslim communities. Both sides agreed that encouraging moderation is essential for guiding youth, preventing extremism, and supporting healthy religious growth.

The meeting also highlighted ways to improve Islamic work in Burundi. This includes supporting religious institutions, offering training for imams and scholars, and helping build educational resources. Burundi’s Grand Mufti expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s long-standing efforts to assist developing nations in enhancing religious services. He noted that cooperation with Saudi Arabia allows Burundi to build stronger structures that serve Muslims across the country. This collaboration will help ensure that Islamic teachings reach communities in a clear, balanced, and beneficial manner.

Saudi Arabia continues to play a significant role in supporting Muslim communities worldwide through initiatives led by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. These initiatives include providing educational materials, training religious leaders, building mosques, and helping countries develop structured religious programs. Through these efforts, the Kingdom aims to promote authentic Islamic values, unity among Muslims, and a deeper understanding of peaceful coexistence. The meeting with Burundi’s Grand Mufti reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing mission to assist nations in strengthening their spiritual and social foundations.

Both Sheikh Abdullatif Al Alsheikh and Sheikh Nayabagabo Salum expressed optimism about the future of Saudi-Burundi cooperation. They agreed that continued communication, knowledge sharing, and program development will greatly benefit Muslims in Burundi. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to expanding collaboration in the coming years, ensuring that the values of peace, moderation, and true Islamic teachings continue to grow.
