Ukrainian Delegation Engages US Officials in Peace Negotiations Regarding Ongoing Conflict

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

A delegation from Ukraine has arrived in the United States to hold talks aimed at formulating a peace agreement to resolve the protracted war with Russia. This high-profile team landed on Saturday, prepared to engage with influential U.S. figures such as White House envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll.

Kyrylo Budanov, who leads the Ukrainian president's office and previously served as military intelligence chief, stressed the crucial need for what he termed “a just peace.” Referring to progress through Telegram, he indicated that the delegation seeks meaningful outcomes to halt hostilities.

President Trump has been proactive in calling for a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow. Despite several negotiation attempts, a definitive settlement has not been achieved, with clashes still ongoing along the extensive 1,200 km (750 miles) front line.

Ukraine and the U.S. have prepared a comprehensive 20-point peace framework; however, a response from Russia remains pending. Among the primary themes to be discussed are territorial negotiations, assurances of security, and the status of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility, which is currently under Russian oversight.

Ukrainian officials have indicated that their agenda will also include the pursuit of security guarantees and a detailed reconstruction plan for the post-war era. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is optimistic that agreements concerning “a prosperity package” may be finalized with the U.S. at the upcoming World Economic Forum in Davos, anticipated to yield around $800 billion in investments for rebuilding efforts.

These discussions in the U.S. represent a significant diplomatic maneuver for Ukraine. While the outlook for a peace arrangement is uncertain, they underscore Ukraine’s commitment to securing global support and ensuring safety and recovery for its citizens post-conflict.

Attention will be closely focused on the developments in the next few days as both Ukraine and the U.S. aim to seal agreements that could influence the future landscape of Eastern Europe and global stability.
