Russia launched a major overnight aerial attack on Ukraine, firing 36 missiles and deploying 242 drones, according to Ukrainian officials. Kyiv said the assault included the use of Russia’s Oreshnik hypersonic missile, targeting strategic sites as part of an intensified phase of military operations.
Russia’s Defence Ministry stated that the strikes were directed at key military objectives. Ukrainian authorities, however, said the scale and advanced nature of the attack signaled a serious escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war. The reported use of hypersonic missile technology underscored Russia’s strike capabilities and created significant challenges for Ukraine’s air defence systems.
The bombardment caused damage to strategic military infrastructure and further escalated the conflict. The combination of high-end weaponry and the scale of the assault has also heightened security concerns across Eastern Europe, highlighting growing regional instability as the war continues.
