People across the West Midlands were left surprised on Thursday evening when the sky suddenly turned a vivid pink. The unusual scene quickly caught attention online, with residents posting photos and videos and guessing what could have caused it.
While some thought it was an unusually colorful sunset and others suspected a rare natural event, the explanation turned out to be much simpler.
The pink glow was seen not only over Birmingham but also in nearby areas, including Hednesford in Staffordshire.
Weather specialists said low cloud cover and falling snow helped strengthen the effect. Snow and clouds can reflect artificial light from streets, buildings, and stadiums back into the sky. Because snow scatters blue light more, the red and pink tones become brighter and more visible.
Although it was not a natural phenomenon, the mix of stadium lighting and winter weather created a striking and memorable sight that amazed people across the region.
