Jannik Sinner has reached the final of the 2025 US Open after a hard-fought victory against Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime. The Italian world No 1 won in four sets, with the score reading 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, after more than three hours of intense tennis under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
This win sends Sinner to his third straight grand slam final against Carlos Alcaraz, underlining a rivalry that is becoming one of the most exciting in men’s tennis.
A Historic Achievement For Sinner
With this victory, Sinner joined a very small and special group of tennis legends. He became only the fourth man in the Open Era, after Rod Laver, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic, to reach all four major finals in the same season. At just 24 years old, he is also the youngest to ever achieve this milestone.
His dominance on hard courts is also remarkable. He now has 27 consecutive wins at hard-court majors, equaling Novak Djokovic’s best streak. Only Federer’s record of 36 wins remains ahead.
Sinner’s Grand Slam Journey This Year
Sinner’s 2025 season has been nothing short of amazing. He won the Australian Open in Melbourne, claimed another trophy at Wimbledon, and came close to victory at Roland Garros, where Alcaraz turned the final around in dramatic fashion.
Now, with the US Open final ahead, he has reached five consecutive grand slam finals. The No 1 world ranking will also be on the line in Sunday’s championship match against Alcaraz.
The Semi-Final Match Against Auger-Aliassime
Sinner started strong against Auger-Aliassime, breaking him twice to take the first set 6-1 in only 43 minutes. Auger-Aliassime’s forehand errors helped the Italian secure an early advantage.
However, the match quickly changed direction in the second set. Auger-Aliassime, who was playing his second grand slam semi-final, found his rhythm with powerful serves and fearless groundstrokes. He won 12 of the last 13 points in the set, sealing it 6-3 with two aces as the crowd roared in support.
Sinner’s Injury Scare
During the second set, Sinner asked for medical help after feeling discomfort in his stomach. He described it as “a small twitching” after a serve. The trainer treated him, and although fans worried about his condition, Sinner reassured everyone afterward that he felt fine. He explained that the pain disappeared after treatment and that it was nothing serious.
Regaining Control In The Third Set
Despite his lower first-serve percentage, which dipped below 50%, Sinner managed to regain control in the third set. At 3-2, he escaped trouble with a run of aces and later broke Auger-Aliassime when the Canadian’s forehand faltered.
Sinner then closed the set with a confident love hold, taking a two-sets-to-one lead and moving closer to the final.
A Thrilling Fourth Set
The fourth set was the most exciting part of the match, with both players pushing each other to the limit in long rallies. At 2-2, Sinner faced three break points but saved them with calm and precision.
In the very next game, Auger-Aliassime broke down again, and Sinner seized the moment with a stunning forehand winner that gave him a 3-2 lead. From there, he stayed solid, and although the Canadian fought bravely, his energy faded after three hours of intense play. Sinner closed out the match with authority, booking his place in the final.
Match Statistics Tell The Story
The numbers showed why Sinner won. He converted four of ten break-point chances and saved nine out of ten break points against him. He hit 33 winners with only 22 unforced errors, proving his efficiency and composure under pressure.
Auger-Aliassime played impressively throughout the tournament, beating top players like Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur. His run will push him back into the world’s top 20, but Sinner’s consistency was too strong for him to overcome.
Auger-Aliassime Proud Despite Defeat
Despite the loss, Auger-Aliassime remained positive about his performance. He said he was pleased with his serving, forehand shots, and fighting spirit. He also emphasized the importance of believing in himself even when things were difficult.
He admitted that the turning point came at the start of the fourth set, when he could not take advantage of five break points. “If one of those forehands goes in, maybe I’m in a fifth set,” he reflected. “But I don’t have regrets. I played my way. You live and die with your choices.”
Alcaraz Awaits In The Final
Earlier in the day, Carlos Alcaraz had beaten Novak Djokovic in straight sets, booking his second US Open final. This means tennis fans will get another exciting showdown between Alcaraz and Sinner.
The two young stars have dominated men’s tennis recently, winning the last eight grand slam titles between them and 10 of the last 13. Their rivalry is already being compared to the great rivalries of the past and is shaping the future of the sport.
Rivalry That Defines A New Era
Alcaraz currently leads their grand slam title count with five, while Sinner has four. With the No 1 ranking also on the line, Sunday’s match is expected to be an epic battle.
Both players push each other to their limits, and fans around the world are eager to see who will come out on top. The sold-out crowd of more than 23,000 spectators, including US President Donald Trump, will witness this historic encounter at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Sinner On Facing Alcaraz Again
When asked about the final, Sinner smiled and said he loves the challenge of playing Alcaraz. “He’s someone who pushes me to the limit, which is great because it gives me the best feedback as a player,” he explained.
At the same time, he admitted it would also be nice not to face Alcaraz so often, showing the respect and friendship they share despite their fierce rivalry.
Jannik Sinner’s win over Félix Auger-Aliassime not only secured him a place in the US Open final but also confirmed his place among the greats of modern tennis. His record-breaking season, combined with his resilience during tough moments, shows why he is world No 1.
With Carlos Alcaraz waiting in the final, the stage is set for another unforgettable match. More than just a contest for the US Open trophy, the battle will decide the world No 1 ranking and continue to shape the future of tennis.
For fans, Sunday’s final promises intensity, history, and the latest chapter in a rivalry that could define an entire era.
