Post by : Mumtaaz Qadiri

The National Defence College (NDC) at the Academy of Strategic and Defence Studies in Bait Al Falaj Camp celebrated an important occasion today. It marked the opening of the 13th National Defence Course and also the first War Course. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Major General Ali bin Abdullah Al Shaidi, the Commandant of the National Defence College. This event was attended by senior officials, reflecting its importance to Oman’s defence and strategic planning.

Purpose Of The National Defence Course

The National Defence Course has been a key program in Oman for many years. Its main aim is to prepare military and civilian leaders with the necessary knowledge, skills, and values that are required to take on strategic positions in the future. The course ensures that leaders are not only strong in defence and security matters but also capable of participating in policy formulation and decision-making at the national level. It gives leaders the tools they need to think broadly and make wise choices that benefit the nation.

Importance Of The War Course

Alongside the National Defence Course, Oman also launched the first War Course. This is a new and important program aimed at military and security leaders. The War Course is designed to strengthen their strategic thinking, creativity, and planning skills. It focuses on the fields of security and defence, ensuring that Oman’s leaders are ready to face modern challenges. This new program highlights Oman’s forward-looking approach in preparing its military for evolving defence needs.

Building Strategic Leaders For Oman

The celebration at the National Defence College showed how serious Oman is about building strong leaders for the future. By offering both courses, the country is investing in the development of a new generation of leaders who can manage strategic responsibilities. These leaders will play vital roles in protecting the country, guiding policies, and ensuring security and stability in the region.

Contribution To Policy Formulation

The National Defence Course goes beyond military matters. It also focuses on teaching participants how to contribute to policy formulation. Leaders who graduate from this program are expected to be active in shaping national strategies and government policies. This makes the course not just about defence but also about nation-building and governance. Graduates will be able to take part in important decision-making processes that affect Oman’s future.

Enhancing Creativity In Security Fields

The War Course, on the other hand, pays special attention to creativity and innovation in defence and security. Modern challenges require new solutions, and the course encourages participants to think outside the box. It trains leaders to look at problems from different angles, plan carefully, and make decisions that ensure success in critical situations. This creativity is essential in dealing with complex threats in today’s world.

Integration Of Military And Civilian Leaders

One of the special features of the National Defence Course is that it brings together both military and civilian leaders. This integration helps create a shared understanding between different parts of the government and the armed forces. By learning together, participants develop a sense of teamwork and cooperation. This strengthens Oman’s ability to respond to challenges in a united and effective way.

Long-Term Vision For Defence Education

The launch of these courses shows Oman’s long-term vision for defence education. The country is not only focusing on today’s challenges but also preparing for the future. By training leaders now, Oman is ensuring that its defence and security sectors will remain strong for many years to come. The courses form part of a wider plan to build a stable and secure society under wise leadership.

Role Of The National Defence College

The National Defence College plays a central role in Oman’s defence system. It has already established itself as a hub for strategic education. Over the years, it has trained many senior officials who are now contributing to the safety and stability of the country. With the addition of the War Course, the College is expanding its role even further and becoming a leader in advanced defence training in the Arab region.

Preparing For Modern Challenges

Defence today is not only about traditional warfare but also about facing modern challenges such as cyber threats, terrorism, and regional instability. The courses at the National Defence College are designed to prepare leaders for all these aspects. They will learn how to handle complex security issues, make fast yet effective decisions, and maintain the stability of the nation even in uncertain times.

Values And Ethics In Leadership

Both the National Defence Course and the War Course place strong emphasis on values and ethics. Leaders are trained to act with integrity, honesty, and responsibility. These qualities are just as important as technical knowledge in defence and security. Oman believes that a true leader must not only be skilled but also guided by strong values that protect the interests of the nation and its people.

A Source Of National Pride

The opening ceremony was more than just a formal event—it was also a source of national pride. Omanis see the launch of these courses as a reflection of their country’s progress and ambition. The celebration at Bait Al Falaj Camp highlighted the nation’s unity and commitment to building a secure and prosperous future.

Preparing For Regional And Global Roles

Another important outcome of these courses is that they prepare Omani leaders for regional and global roles. In today’s interconnected world, security is not limited to one country. Leaders must work with international partners, share knowledge, and contribute to regional peace. The training from these courses ensures that Oman’s leaders are ready to engage on the global stage and represent the country with strength and wisdom.

Combining Theory And Practice

The courses are carefully designed to combine theory and practice. Participants do not only learn concepts in classrooms but also take part in practical exercises. This helps them understand how strategies work in real-life situations. By the end of the course, they will be well-prepared to apply their knowledge directly in their roles as decision-makers.

The celebration of the 13th National Defence Course and the launch of the 1st War Course at Oman’s National Defence College marks a major step in strengthening the country’s leadership. These programs aim to prepare a new generation of leaders who are strategic, creative, and ethical. They will not only protect the nation but also guide its policies and contribute to its long-term stability. With this, Oman has shown its commitment to leadership, security, and national progress.
