Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) share a long history of friendship and cooperation. This relationship covers areas such as trade, culture, and most importantly, defence. Recently, this cooperation was once again highlighted when Pakistan’s President, Asif Ali Zardari, awarded a top military honour to the Commander of the UAE Naval Forces, Major General Humaid Mohammed Alremeithi. This honour, known as the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), is one of Pakistan’s highest awards given to military leaders who make great contributions in strengthening defence relations.
What Is The Nishan-E-Imtiaz (Military)?
The Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) is a prestigious award in Pakistan. It is not given often and is reserved for those who show outstanding service, achievements, and support to Pakistan, especially in the field of defence. By awarding this medal to Major General Humaid Mohammed Alremeithi, Pakistan officially recognised his role in building stronger military and naval relations between the two friendly countries. This reflects how much Pakistan values its military partnership with the UAE.
UAE Commander’s Official Visit To Pakistan
The honour was presented during Major General Humaid Mohammed Alremeithi’s official visit to Pakistan. He visited Pakistan at the special invitation of Admiral Naveed Ashraf, who is the Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan. Such visits are very important as they give both countries’ defence leaders a chance to discuss challenges, share experiences, and work on future projects together.
Strengthening Naval Cooperation
One of the key focuses of this visit was naval cooperation. The seas are very important for both Pakistan and the UAE, as both countries depend heavily on maritime trade, oil shipments, and regional security. During this visit, discussions were held on how the naval forces of the two countries can work more closely together. This includes joint training, knowledge exchange, and cooperation in securing sea routes in the region. Such cooperation not only strengthens the navies of both countries but also ensures peace and stability in the surrounding waters.
Meetings With Top Military Officials
Apart from receiving the award from President Asif Ali Zardari, Major General Humaid Mohammed Alremeithi also met other senior leaders of Pakistan’s armed forces. He held meetings with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan. This meeting focused on broader defence cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE, covering land, air, and sea forces. He also met Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, who leads Pakistan’s Air Force. These meetings showed the importance of building cooperation across all branches of the military, not just the navy.
Symbol Of Friendship And Trust
The award ceremony was more than just a formal event. It was a strong symbol of the trust and respect that exists between Pakistan and the UAE. Both countries have stood by each other in difficult times, and their relationship has only grown stronger with time. By honouring the UAE Naval Commander, Pakistan sent a clear message that it values the friendship and partnership of the UAE at the highest level.
Importance Of Defence Relations
Defence relations between Pakistan and the UAE are not new. Over the decades, both countries have worked closely on training, joint exercises, and sharing technology. Many officers from the UAE have been trained in Pakistan’s military academies. Similarly, Pakistan has always supported the UAE in developing its armed forces. This cooperation has helped both sides grow stronger, more professional, and better prepared to deal with regional challenges.
Maritime Security And Regional Stability
In today’s world, the seas are not only important for trade but also for security. Threats such as piracy, smuggling, and illegal fishing continue to challenge maritime nations. Pakistan and the UAE both sit in strategically important locations near the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf. This makes it necessary for them to work together to ensure safe sea routes for their own countries and the world. The visit of the UAE Naval Commander highlighted how both countries are determined to keep working together for safe and secure waters.
Wider Strategic Partnership
While the award ceremony and naval cooperation were the highlights of this visit, the overall relationship between Pakistan and the UAE is much wider. The UAE is home to a large Pakistani community that contributes to its economy. At the same time, the UAE has always supported Pakistan in times of need, both financially and politically. Defence cooperation adds another strong layer to this already deep friendship. Both countries see each other as reliable partners who can be counted on when it matters most.
Recognition Of UAE’s Role
By awarding the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) to Major General Humaid Mohammed Alremeithi, Pakistan also recognised the role of the UAE in regional peace and security. The UAE has modernised its armed forces in recent years and has taken part in several international missions. Its strong defence cooperation with Pakistan shows its commitment to building lasting partnerships with key countries in the region.
Looking To The Future
This visit and award ceremony have opened new doors for further cooperation between the two countries. Both sides are expected to increase the frequency of joint naval drills, officer training exchanges, and sharing of technical expertise. This will not only improve the capacity of their navies but will also contribute to maintaining peace in the wider region. Such long-term cooperation benefits both Pakistan and the UAE as they prepare for future challenges together.
The honour given to Major General Humaid Mohammed Alremeithi was more than a medal. It was a clear message that Pakistan values its friendship and defence ties with the UAE at the highest level. It was also proof of the strong bond between the two nations, built over decades of cooperation and mutual support. With this step, Pakistan and the UAE have not only celebrated their current partnership but have also shown commitment to a stronger and safer future together.
