A passenger train in Switzerland derailed after an avalanche struck, leaving several people injured and alarming passengers and witnesses. The BLS-operated train, carrying around 30 passengers, went off the tracks near Goppenstein when snow and debris from the avalanche hit it.
Authorities confirmed that five individuals were hurt. One was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment, while the remaining four received medical attention at the scene. Reports from Swiss media also note that the train’s driver sustained injuries.
Emergency teams arrived swiftly, and officials have launched an investigation into the derailment, which occurred amid hazardous winter conditions that have made travel in the area increasingly risky.
