Air India Phuket-Delhi Flight Hits Turbulence, Passengers Injured

An Air India flight travelling from Phuket to Delhi encountered severe turbulence during its journey on Tuesday, leaving several passengers and cabin crew with minor injuries. Despite the incident, the aircraft landed safely at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi at around 8:30 a.m. on August 4, 2026.

According to Air India, the affected flight was AI2379, which experienced unexpected turbulence during the flight. The airline confirmed that the pilot safely completed the landing in Delhi and that all passengers and crew were evacuated from the aircraft without any major incident.

Injured Passengers Shifted to Hospitals

Following the landing, injured passengers and crew members were seen being assisted in wheelchairs before being transported by ambulances for medical treatment. Some were observed with bandages on their eyes, hands, and necks.

Those requiring medical attention were taken to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, and the Spine Injury Centre for evaluation and treatment.

While the exact number of injured people has not been officially confirmed, reports indicate that around 12 passengers sustained injuries during the turbulence.

Passenger Describes Sudden Turbulence Mid-Flight

One passenger said the aircraft had been in the air for around one and a half hours when the turbulence struck. According to the passenger, many people were asleep when the aircraft suddenly experienced intense shaking that continued for approximately two to three minutes.

The passenger claimed that 15 to 20 people were injured during the incident. The individual also said the aircraft was carrying more than 100 people and estimated that 70% to 80% of those onboard suffered some form of injury. However, the passenger acknowledged that the exact number of injured people remains unknown, and a preliminary investigation is underway.

Air India Confirms Safe Landing

In an official statement, an Air India spokesperson said that flight AI2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi on August 4, encountered a brief period of turbulence during the journey, resulting in a sudden change in the aircraft's altitude.

The spokesperson confirmed that the pilots safely landed the aircraft in Delhi and all passengers and crew members disembarked safely. The airline stated that no serious injuries have been reported so far.

Airline Provides Medical Assistance

Air India said that several passengers and cabin crew members sustained minor injuries and were taken to the airport's medical facility for precautionary assessment and treatment by the airline's airport team and medical staff.

The airline added that the safety and well-being of its passengers and crew remain its highest priority. It also stated that all necessary assistance is being provided to those affected and that the airline is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities during the ongoing investigation.
