In a remarkable gesture, an anonymous donor has presented the city of Osaka, Japan, with 21 kilograms of gold bars valued at approximately $3.6 million, intended specifically for repairing its aging water pipe system.
The gold, worth about 560 million yen, was handed over to the Osaka City Waterworks Bureau with the stipulation that it be used to enhance the city’s water infrastructure, which has been plagued by frequent leaks and safety issues.
City officials said the donation will significantly support public works initiatives focused on upgrading vital utilities. Osaka’s mayor conveyed heartfelt thanks for the extraordinary contribution.
