Deadly Militant Attack on Niger Airport | 13 Killed, JNIM Claims Responsibility

A deadly militant attack struck Diori Hamani International Airport and an adjacent military airbase in Niamey, Niger, killing 11 security personnel and two civilians in the early morning assault. Nigerien authorities say security forces successfully repelled the attack, killing 22 militants, arresting around 20 suspects, and recovering weapons and ammunition amid the chaos.

The Al‑Qaeda‑linked group JNIM (Jama’a Nusrat ul‑Islam wa al‑Muslimin) later claimed responsibility, underscoring the growing security threat across the Sahel region as extremist violence continues to escalate.
