Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Milwaukee Bucks secured a thrilling 147-134 overtime victory against the Charlotte Hornets in an intense clash of the NBA Cup East Group C. The game was filled with excitement, rapid scoring, and constant lead changes. Fans experienced a nail-biting contest where both teams displayed remarkable offense throughout. Milwaukee aimed to maintain its unbeaten record within the group, achieving their goal by dominating the overtime session.

After regulation play ended tied, the game moved into overtime. Myles Turner opened the extra period with a three-pointer, instantly energizing the Bucks. This set the tone for the remainder of the overtime. Although Miles Bridges answered back for the Hornets with a quick floater, Turner followed up with another three-pointer, paving the way for an 8-0 scoring run that allowed Milwaukee to seize control. Kyle Kuzma also contributed with a three-pointer, extending the lead to 140-131 with under two minutes remaining.

Milwaukee outscored Charlotte 18-5 in the overtime frame, showcasing their prowess and composure in high-pressure moments. This marked the first time during the game that either team led by more than six points. Prior to overtime, the matchup featured 11 ties and an astonishing 32 lead changes. Throughout the four quarters, the teams exchanged baskets, but the Bucks found their stride in overtime, preventing the Hornets from mounting a comeback.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, returning from a knee injury, made an immediate impact. After Charlotte attempted to respond with a three-pointer from Bridges, both teams stalled, but Giannis scored twice consecutively, essentially sealing the game. He concluded the night with 25 points and a remarkable 18 assists, just shy of his career high, in addition to seven rebounds.

Kyle Kuzma had a standout performance for the Bucks with 29 points and 10 rebounds, leading the team. Ryan Rollins contributed 20 points, while Turner played a crucial role in overtime, finishing with 18 points. AJ Green scored 13, and Milwaukee benefited from solid support from their bench; Bobby Portis netted 12 points, while Cole Anthony and Gary Harris both chipped in with 10. This balanced offensive effort was vital for Milwaukee in maintaining competitiveness throughout and dominating in the extra period.

The Hornets also showcased impressive performances, with Miles Bridges and rookie Kon Knueppel each contributing 32 points, providing Charlotte a fighting chance from the outset. They even led by 10 points in the first half but struggled to sustain it against Milwaukee’s depth. The defeat marked the Hornets' fourth loss in five games, emphasizing their ongoing challenges with consistency despite their individual talents.

After missing five games due to an ankle injury, LaMelo Ball returned to the lineup, making an immediate impact with 16 points and 10 assists, aiding Charlotte’s competitiveness. Moussa Diabate was also significant, recording 15 points and 11 rebounds. Collin Sexton offered 14 points off the bench, and Sion James contributed 12 from the starting roster. Their aggregate effort kept the Hornets closely matched throughout.

With this latest win, the Bucks improved to 2-0 in NBA Cup East Group C, standing as the only team without a loss in the group. Conversely, Charlotte dropped to 0-2, continuing to seek its first victory. Milwaukee’s resilience in overtime highlighted their capability to thrive under stress and execute critical plays.

As the Bucks look to sustain their success in the Cup, their teamwork, scoring balance, and intelligent gameplay in pivotal moments bode well for a potential deep playoff run. Meanwhile, Charlotte will strive to regroup and address the defensive issues that allowed Milwaukee to assert dominance in the extra period. Their promising young talent must work towards greater consistency for future successes.
