In a nail-biting encounter, the Chicago Bulls clinched a 122-121 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night, thanks to a jaw-dropping last-second three-pointer from Nikola Vucevic. The game swung dramatically, with Chicago nearly squandering a 21-point lead before Vucevic's heroics sealed the win.
Vucevic starred with 27 points, but none were more crucial than the final ones that secured the Bulls' second consecutive triumph. As time dwindled, Coby White made a quick drive to the basket but chose to pass it out to Vucevic, who was open on the wing. He nailed the shot with just seconds left on the clock.
The Bulls had maintained a strong grip on the game, leading 98-82 as the fourth quarter began. Ayo Dosunmu expanded the advantage to 109-88 with a swift layup. However, a fierce 32-7 surge by Portland shifted the momentum.
The Bulls faced a scoring drought while Portland's Jerami Grant and Deni Avdija fueled their comeback, contributing key points and turnovers that narrow the gap.
In the game’s final minutes, Avdija leveled the score at 116-116 with a three-pointer. Donovan Clingan's three-point play gave Portland a brief 119-116 edge, and Avdija’s free throw pushed it to 120-116.
Chicago faced the possibility of defeat after controlling most of the match.
In a critical moment, Coby White scored a clutch three-pointer to bring it to 120-119, but a free throw from Grant extended Portland's lead to 121-119 with seconds remaining.
The stage was set for a dramatic conclusion. White advanced the ball, spotted Vucevic, and set him up for the game-winner. Vucevic's shot swished through just before the final buzzer, clinching the dramatic victory for Chicago.
In addition to Vucevic, Coby White shone brightly with 25 points and seven assists, while Isaac Okoro contributed 13 points and Ayo Dosunmu added 14 off the bench. Notably, rookie Matas Buzelis chipped in with 11 points, and Josh Giddey managed nine points alongside 13 assists.
For the Trail Blazers, Jerami Grant excelled with 33 points and nine rebounds, while Deni Avdija notched a triple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. Donovan Clingan added 17 points and a remarkable 21 rebounds, a personal best.
Chicago showcased impressive shooting, landing 47.9% of their attempts and sinking 21 three-pointers out of 49 tries. White and Vucevic were particularly effective from beyond the arc. Conversely, Portland struggled, with only a 41.1% shooting average and 12 successful three-pointers out of 42 attempts.
The Trail Blazers faced significant challenges due to injuries to key players like Jrue Holiday, Shaedon Sharpe, and Robert Williams III.
This match will be remembered for its thrilling conclusion, where Chicago's near collapse was salvaged by Vucevic's calm execution at the buzzer. A night of excitement, standout performances, and dramatic play ensured the Bulls secured a memorable win that fans will cherish.
