The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), has unveiled an expanded bridge that leads to Terminal 1 at Dubai International Airport.
This upgraded structure has increased the traffic lanes from three to four, thereby elevating the bridge's capacity from 4,200 vehicles per hour to 5,600 vehicles per hour—a notable 33% enhancement. Such improvements facilitate better traffic flow, shorten travel durations, and elevate the overall experience for visitors at the airport.
Employing an innovative design that includes steel box girders and a composite concrete deck, the bridge was completed without redirecting traffic on Airport Street or the need for temporary supports below, ensuring smooth operations while upholding strict safety standards.
This initiative also covered upgrades to road surfaces, utility frameworks, landscaping, and the installation of new street lights, improving visibility and safety across the area.
This project is a crucial element of RTA’s ongoing mission to enhance Dubai’s road network and its connectivity to essential facilities, and supports the burgeoning activity at Dubai International Airport, recognized as the busiest in the world for international travel, addressing both current and future demands.
RTA and DAEP continue to affirm their dedication to creating efficient road and transport frameworks that bolster connectivity and cement Dubai’s status as a premier global aviation and travel destination.
