Chelsea secured their place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a commanding 3-1 victory over Cardiff City on Tuesday evening. The Blues will now prepare to face either Arsenal or Crystal Palace in the much-anticipated two-legged semi-final that kicks off next week. Chelsea showcased their attacking prowess, keeping Cardiff predominantly on the defensive and dominating the pace of the game.
In another quarter-final, Manchester City, with seven alterations to their lineup following the previous weekend's win against Crystal Palace, surged past Brentford amidst heavy rainfall. The match started slowly, but City soon found their rhythm. Rayan Cherki broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a superb strike into the top corner, celebrating with a nod to Haaland's famous robot. Later, a deflected effort from Savinho sealed their victory as it looped over the Brentford keeper. The match also signified a milestone for 19-year-old Charlie Gray, who made his senior debut by replacing Phil Foden late in the match.
Meanwhile, Newcastle prevailed over Fulham in a nail-biting encounter, courtesy of a last-minute header from Miley. Newcastle initially took the lead through Yoane Wissa, capitalizing on a blunder from Fulham's goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte. However, Sasa Lukic quickly equalized for Fulham with a precise header. A potential own-goal from Fulham’s Joachim Andersen was ruled out for offside, paving the way for Miley’s stunning winner in stoppage time, securing Newcastle's place in the semi-finals.
With Chelsea and Newcastle moving forward, the FA Cup semi-finals are set to deliver intense matchups. Chelsea will strive to maintain their impressive run, while Newcastle will aim to keep their momentum building towards a potential final appearance. Fans can anticipate memorable goals and thrilling moments as the tournament nears its conclusion.
