Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Arsenal all extended unbeaten starts in this season's Champions League, each claiming important victories during the latest round of group matches.
At Anfield, Alexis Mac Allister delivered the match-winner with a header from a Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick in the 63rd minute, ending Real Madrid's long unbeaten run since September. Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois produced eight fine stops before conceding to Mac Allister's header.
Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to Liverpool for the first time since his transfer and was met with strong boos as Real found it hard to cope with the Reds' pressure. The result could signal a shift for Arne Slot's side, who had lost six of their previous eight fixtures.
Over in Paris, Bayern Munich preserved their flawless record with a 2-1 victory against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain. Luis Díaz struck twice in the opening half but was later shown a red card for a reckless challenge on Achraf Hakimi, after helping Bayern seize control early on and notch their 16th consecutive win across all competitions.
PSG fought back — Joao Neves headed one back in the 74th minute — yet they were unable to overturn the deficit. Manager Vincent Kompany lauded his players while stressing the race for silverware remains wide open.
In Prague, Arsenal moved clear with a 3-0 triumph over Slavia Prague. Teenager Max Dowman, aged 15 years and 308 days, became the youngest player in Champions League history when he was introduced from the bench. Bukayo Saka converted a penalty and Mikel Merino added a second-half brace to seal the victory.
Elsewhere, Tottenham beat FC Copenhagen 4-0 at home, Atletico Madrid overcame Union Saint-Gilloise 3-1, Napoli and Juventus were held to draws, and Monaco claimed a 1-0 win against Bodo/Glimt on the road.
