Rory McIlroy Sets Sights on Fifth Dubai Desert Classic Triumph in 2026

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Rory McIlroy has aimed for his fifth Rolex Series title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, marking the start of his 2026 DP World Tour season.

The world’s No. 2 golfer enjoyed a remarkable 2025, achieving a career Grand Slam with a Masters victory, capturing his second Amgen Irish Open title, and aiding Team Europe in retaining the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. Furthermore, he clinched the Harry Vardon Trophy for the seventh time, solidifying his position as Europe’s premier golfer.

Despite his impressive achievements, the 36-year-old is committed to infusing every tournament with excitement and enthusiasm. “I need to show up at tournaments with enthusiasm every single time,” said McIlroy. “If I do the other things right, the results will take care of themselves.”

McIlroy’s fondness for Dubai is widely recognized. He made his professional debut at Emirates Golf Club 20 years ago as a 16-year-old amateur and has since amassed seven wins, eight runner-up positions, and 37 top-10 finishes in the UAE. He aspires to earn the iconic Dallah Trophy for an unprecedented fifth time this year.

Defending champion Tyrrell Hatton will also return to Dubai, marking his initial appearance in the 2026 Race to Dubai. Hatton, the previous year's winner by one shot over Daniel Hillier, boasts five Rolex Series triumphs, tied with his colleague Jon Rahm, and is eager to defend his title.

Former champion Viktor Hovland will also kick off his 2026 season in Dubai, following a top-25 finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. The Norwegian has been honing his swing and is optimistic about achieving greater consistency this year.

The 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic is set to deliver exciting competition as top golfers like McIlroy, Hatton, and Hovland strive for early-season success in the UAE.
