The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Squad, bolstered by Mubadala Investment Company, kicked off its campaign at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games – Riyadh 2025 with an impressive display. On the first day of competitions, UAE athletes garnered four medals, underscoring their intense preparation and high skill levels. The events unfold on November 20 and 21, featuring leading jiu-jitsu teams from the Muslim world and beyond.
The Islamic Solidarity Games stand as a significant international multi-sport event, attracting competitors from over 50 nations. Among the various sports, jiu-jitsu has emerged as a fan-favorite and a rapidly growing sport.
On the inaugural day, four UAE representatives stepped onto the mats: Saeed Alkubaisi in the 85kg division, Sultan Hassan in the 69kg division, Abdullah Alkubaisi in the 94kg division, and Shamsa Alameri in the 57kg division. Each athlete delivered strong performances, resulting in a medal tally for the UAE.
The standout moment came when Shamsa Alameri captured the gold in the women’s 57kg category. Her exceptional technique and focus propelled her to the top of the podium. Saeed Alkubaisi secured a silver medal in the 85kg category, while Abdullah Alkubaisi and Sultan Hassan claimed bronze medals in their respective categories.
Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali, Technical Director of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expressed his pride in the team's achievements. He noted that the results demonstrate the athletes' unwavering commitment to training over recent months. Despite tough competition from elite international jiu-jitsu contenders, UAE athletes exhibited remarkable determination and skills.
He mentioned that the team is prepared to maintain its strong momentum into the second day of competitions, optimistic that they can secure additional medals and further highlight the growth of jiu-jitsu in the UAE.
Gold medalist Shamsa Alameri shared her confidence stemming from rigorous training. The national team's preparation camps, she noted, played a crucial role in honing her skills. Proudly, she dedicated her victory to the UAE leadership and supporters.
With competitions set to continue tomorrow, the UAE team is eager to add to its medal haul. Athletes vying on the final day include Khaled Al Shehhi in the 62kg category, Mahdi Al Awlaqi in the 77kg category, Asma Al Hosani in the 52kg category, and Shamma Al Kalbani in the 63kg category. Each is motivated to build on the team’s successful start.
This promising opening day has marked a great start for the UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team at the Islamic Solidarity Games. Their efforts reflect dedication, significant support, and the expanding culture of jiu-jitsu in the UAE, as the nation looks ahead to more triumphs on the international stage.
