At 4:40 pm UAE time on 4 November 2025, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) recorded a 4.6 magnitude earthquake affecting southern Musandam, Oman. The tremor was shallow, occurring at about 5 kilometres depth, and was felt in parts of the UAE including Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
Officials confirmed there were no casualties, injuries or structural damage. While the movement prompted brief unease among residents, it did not interrupt daily life. The NCM emphasised that low-magnitude, shallow quakes are relatively common when activity occurs offshore.
Locals shared videos and eyewitness accounts online describing a sudden jolt. Social media responses showed more curiosity and surprise than alarm, as the shaking was short-lived.
The UAE is considered a low seismic-risk country, but its closeness to the Zagros fault system in southern Iran and Oman means northern and eastern emirates occasionally feel tremors. The NCM maintains continuous monitoring to detect seismic events and notify authorities promptly.
By evening normal conditions had returned, and experts reiterated that small tremors generally pose little threat while highlighting the value of public awareness and preparedness.
In summary, the 4.6 magnitude event off Musandam caused brief tremors across the UAE without damage or injuries, serving as a reminder of the region’s occasional seismic activity.
