Abu Dhabi recently hosted a significant economic event, the Brisbane Forum for Networking and Economic Partnerships, attracting leading officials and business representatives from the UAE and Australia. The forum's goal was to reinforce commercial connections and facilitate new collaborative opportunities between the two regions.
Representing Australia was Councillor Fiona Cunningham, Deputy Mayor of Brisbane, who led a delegation of over 40 members from both government and business sectors. The event provided a platform for Emirati and Australian firms to engage in meaningful discussions and one-on-one meetings, exploring joint ventures, trading possibilities, and investment initiatives.
In recent years, trade between the UAE and Australia has surged notably. In the first half of 2025, the non-oil trade volume escalated by 33.4% compared to the previous year, reaching US$3 billion. With the newly enacted Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), bilateral trade is expected to grow from US$4.2 billion in 2024 to over US$10 billion by 2032.
The discussions at the forum covered a variety of sectors, including industry, clean energy, advanced technology, infrastructure, and tourism. Participants shared insights on optimizing trade flows and refining investment mechanisms for improved collaboration.
The Brisbane Forum underscored the UAE’s dedication to diversifying its economy through global partnerships, establishing Abu Dhabi as a center for international business innovation. This event solidified the economic and cultural bonds between the two nations and set the stage for enhanced cooperation in the future.
