Dubai Airport Installs 520 Hearing Loops For Easy Accessibility

Post by : Mumtaaz Qadiri

Dubai Airports, the operator of Dubai International Airport (DXB), has announced the successful installation of more than 520 Hearing Loops across the airport. This is the largest rollout of its kind in the world and highlights Dubai’s ambition to become the most inclusive and accessible airport for travellers with hearing loss. With this milestone, DXB is setting new global standards for accessibility in international air travel.

Hearing Loops Explained For Travellers

The Hearing Loop technology allows passengers with hearing aids or cochlear implants to connect seamlessly. By simply switching their device to the ‘T’ (telecoil) setting, they can hear important information more clearly. Unlike other systems, there is no need for extra equipment or complicated pairing. This makes communication at busy areas like check-in, boarding gates, and immigration desks much easier for travellers with hearing challenges.

Locations Of The Hearing Loops

The installation covers all three terminals of Dubai International Airport. Hearing Loops are now available at essential passenger service points such as check-in counters, immigration areas, boarding gates, and information desks. These are the places where communication is most important for travellers. With this deployment, DXB has ensured that accessibility is not limited to just one area but is spread across the entire passenger journey.

Statement From Dubai Airports’ Leadership

Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports, highlighted the importance of this achievement. He said the installation of more than 520 Hearing Loops shows Dubai Airports’ commitment to ensuring that every traveller, regardless of ability, can move through the airport with dignity and confidence. He also praised the teamwork of the oneDXB community, which brought together multiple partners to make this project a reality.

Partners Supporting The Rollout

The successful deployment of the Hearing Loops was possible because of close cooperation between Dubai Airports and its partners. The oneDXB community, which includes Emirates, flydubai, Dubai Police, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Customs, dnata, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Taxi Company, and Dubai Duty Free, worked together to ensure smooth delivery of the project. Their support reflects Dubai’s united approach to improving the travel experience for all guests.

Training For Airport Employees

To make the system more effective, frontline airport staff received training on how to assist passengers with hearing loss. This ensures that travellers not only benefit from the technology but also receive human support when needed. Employees were educated about the use of the Hearing Loops and about best practices when assisting guests of determination. This step ensures that every traveller feels welcomed and supported at every stage of their journey.

Alignment With Dubai’s Universal Design Code

The project is part of Dubai’s commitment to inclusivity through its Universal Design Code. This code ensures that all public spaces and transport systems are accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical abilities. The installation of Hearing Loops at DXB reflects this vision, ensuring equal access to travel services. Importantly, the rollout was completed with minimal disruption to the airport’s daily operations, showing careful planning and execution.

Global Need For Accessibility

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1.5 billion people worldwide currently live with some degree of hearing loss. This number is expected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050. For such a large group of people, accessibility solutions like Hearing Loops are not optional—they are essential. By addressing this global need, Dubai International Airport is positioning itself as a leader in accessible travel and setting an example for other airports worldwide.

Benefits For Travellers With Hearing Loss

For travellers with hearing difficulties, airports can be stressful environments filled with noise and announcements. The installation of Hearing Loops reduces this stress by ensuring that key information is clearly delivered to their hearing devices. Whether it’s at check-in, during immigration, or at boarding, travellers can now move through the airport with more confidence. This also supports smoother and faster operations, as communication becomes more efficient.

A Step Toward Global Inclusivity

This rollout is more than just a technological upgrade—it is part of Dubai Airports’ long-term accessibility strategy. The focus is on practical, guest-centred solutions that improve the travel experience for all. By investing in infrastructure and training, Dubai is creating an inclusive airport that values every traveller. This reflects the wider ambition of the UAE to position itself as a global leader in accessibility, inclusivity, and customer care.

Future Of Accessibility At DXB

The Hearing Loops installation is just one step in Dubai Airports’ broader strategy. The airport plans to continue improving accessibility with more upgrades, innovations, and staff training. By taking such measures, Dubai aims to ensure that every traveller, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy a smooth, stress-free, and respectful journey from the moment they arrive at the airport to the time they board their flight.

Making Travel Easier For Everyone

The completion of more than 520 Hearing Loops at Dubai International Airport is a groundbreaking achievement that sets a new global benchmark. For travellers with hearing loss, this means greater independence, dignity, and comfort while travelling. For the aviation industry, it highlights how accessibility can be successfully integrated into large-scale operations. Dubai Airports has proven that inclusivity is not just a promise but a reality, and this development will inspire airports around the world to follow in its footsteps.
