The Kite World Cup organising committee has confirmed that all preparations are complete for the event's debut in Abu Dhabi, UAE, part of the Fahid Island Watersports Festival. Kicking off on Saturday, 25th October, the festival will run until 2nd November, showcasing over 150 elite professional athletes from around the globe, marking it as a significant international sports highlight.
A press conference on Fahid Island unveiled details of both the festival and the championship. Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, joined numerous athletes and partners at the announcement. The committee provided insights into the schedule, competitions, and planned activities set for the week-long festival.
Jointly organised with Aldar, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and AD Ports Group, the championship boasts a premier sporting lineup featuring kitesurfing, wing foiling, e-foiling, hydrofoiling, wake foiling, and freestyle surfing. This diverse array of watersports is a testament to Abu Dhabi's ambition to position itself as a leading global hub for international competitions.
Among the prominent contenders are French athlete Kylie Belloeuvre, Spanish athlete Borja Vellon, American athlete Justin Chait, Emirati kitesurfer Mohammed Al Mansoori, and local resident Fryderyk Szczesny. Their participation promises to elevate the competitive standard and draw global attention to the championship.
The Fahid Island Watersports Festival aims to bolster Abu Dhabi's image as an international watersports haven. Beyond competitions, the event will host live performances and family-friendly entertainment, offering visitors a blend of high-level sports and leisurely activities in a picturesque coastal location.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan expressed pride in Abu Dhabi's capacity to host such a renowned event and acknowledged the collaboration among partners and support teams to ensure an outstanding championship experience. The leadership seeks to underline the global significance of this event.
Local athlete Mohammed Al Mansoori expressed enthusiasm for competing alongside fellow UAE athletes. He reflected on the intense preparation and training that preceded the championship, aimed at delivering strong performances against the world's top competitors. The presence of local athletes is expected to inspire young sports aficionados in the UAE.
From 25th October to 2nd November, the festival will feature various watersports competitions, live entertainment, and cultural showcases. This event provides a unique opportunity for fans and families to experience elite sports amid an engaging and festive atmosphere, with Fahid Island poised to be the epicenter of sporting excitement for an entire week.
