New Rail Service Between UAE and Oman Set to Revitalize Freight Transport

New Rail Service Between UAE and Oman Set to Revitalize Freight Transport

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A significant advancement in regional logistics is underway as Noatum Logistics, a segment of AD Ports Group, collaborates with Hafeet Rail to establish a dedicated freight corridor connecting Sohar in Oman with Abu Dhabi in the UAE. This agreement, signed during the Global Rail 2025 exhibition in Abu Dhabi, inaugurates the first rail link between these vital economic centers.

The intended service will feature seven container trains each week, with the capacity to transport 276 TEUs per train, equating to an annual capacity of nearly 193,200 TEUs. These trains will accommodate various container sizes—20ft, 40ft, and 45ft—facilitating the movement of an array of goods, from manufactured items and pharmaceuticals to food and everyday necessities.

By utilizing Hafeet Rail’s infrastructure, Noatum Logistics aims to deliver an economical, scalable, and eco-friendly option for businesses, thus reducing their reliance on road transport. Rail freight minimizes fuel use and greatly decreases carbon emissions per ton, positioning itself as a greener alternative for the region’s supply chains.

This initiative builds on existing links that already tie Khalifa Port to Fujairah Terminals, broadening the network to streamline cross-border trade. Besides improving operational efficiencies, this rail corridor is expected to enhance regional economic collaboration, unlocking new trade potential while aligning with sustainable development initiatives.

Through this initiative, Oman and the UAE are spearheading efforts to modernize logistics infrastructure and foster a contemporary, efficient supply chain ecosystem across the Gulf.
