Bhoomi Chauhan still remembers feeling upset and angry. She was stuck in heavy traffic while on her way to Ahmedabad airport. Because of the delay, she reached late and missed her Air India flight to London Gatwick by just 10 minutes.
Bhoomi, 28, is a business administration student who lives in Bristol with her husband. She was in western India for a holiday and was supposed to return home on Thursday on flight AI171.
Sadly, that flight crashed shortly after take-off, killing all 241 people on board and some people on the ground too.
Since Bhoomi reached the airport less than an hour before the flight, the airline staff didn’t let her board.
"We were really angry with our driver and left the airport in frustration," she said. "I was very disappointed."
She and her husband stopped nearby to have tea. While they were speaking with their travel agent about getting a refund, she received a call that changed everything.
"I got a call saying the plane had crashed,” Bhoomi told “It truly feels like a miracle."
