The Sacramento Kings clinched a nail-biting 105-104 triumph over the Utah Jazz during their home opener on Friday evening. With just 6.4 seconds on the clock, Domantas Sabonis executed the game-winning shot, capping off a tense contest where neither side led by more than eight points.
Sabonis showcased his skills with a double-double, scoring 12 points and leading the team with 12 rebounds. His crucial follow-up shot, even after missing a free throw, made all the difference. This offensive rebound and quick finish displayed his knack for thriving under pressure.
Malik Monk stepped up off the bench, contributing 20 points, while Dennis Schroder added 17 points. Zach LaVine was pivotal in clutch moments, scoring seven of his total 31 points in the dying minutes to maintain Sacramento's competitiveness. His timely 3-pointer and driving layup helped regain momentum after trailing Utah.
In the final four minutes, leads exchanged hands multiple times. Lauri Markkanen pushed the Jazz ahead 104-103 with two free throws, but Sabonis quickly countered with his game-winner. Keyonte George had the chance to seal a victory for Utah but missed a potential game-winning shot as time expired, securing the win for the Kings.
Despite the defeat, the Jazz boasted strong performances from Markkanen, who scored a game-high 33 points with four 3-pointers. Keyonte George recorded 18 points and 10 assists, and Brice Sensabaugh chipped in 15 points. On the boards, Jusuf Nurkic grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench as Utah out-rebounded Sacramento 50-33.
Sacramento outperformed Utah with a 48.2% field goal efficiency versus the Jazz’s 44.2%. Sabonis went 6 for 9 from the field, while LaVine hit 10 of his 18 attempts. Both teams demonstrated strong scoring depth, contributing to an intense and closely contested game.
After an initial season-opening loss to the Phoenix Suns, the Kings demonstrated resilience and teamwork, executing offensively well and making crucial defensive plays in the closing moments.
