A transformative leap for UAE-Oman trade is on the horizon as Noatum Logistics, a division of AD Ports Group, finalizes a preliminary deal with Hafeet Rail to initiate a dedicated freight rail service. This development was unveiled at the Global Rail 2025 exhibition in Abu Dhabi, marking a crucial advancement in regional logistics operations.
The proposed rail route aims to connect Sohar in Oman with Abu Dhabi, offering a daily schedule that includes seven container trains each week. Every train will accommodate up to 276 TEUs, with an anticipated annual capacity of approximately 193,200 TEUs. This service is designed to carry 20-foot, 40-foot, and 45-foot containers, facilitating the movement of diverse goods such as general cargo, manufactured items, food products, pharmaceuticals, agrifoods, and other vital supplies.
This project not only aims to enhance logistics efficiency but also presents a cost-effective and scalable alternative to vehicular transport. Rail freight is touted for its capability to transport substantial cargo volumes while consuming less fuel, leading to predictable timetables and significant reductions in carbon emissions. For companies, this equates to improved operational efficacy and enhanced sustainability profiles.
The partnership between Noatum and Hafeet Rail builds upon existing rail links in the region, including the shuttle service that connects Khalifa Port to Fujairah Terminals, initiated late last year. By adding this new cross-border rail route, the UAE-Oman trade axis is poised for improved efficiency and deeper economic collaboration, thereby reinforcing supply chains and creating new business opportunities.
As the Middle East makes strides in infrastructure development for trade facilitation, this rail initiative highlights the increasing significance of sustainable transportation in logistics, offering a dependable and contemporary alternative to conventional road networks.
