The Sultanate of Oman joined other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in Kuwait for the second ministerial meeting with Japan. This meeting is part of the GCC-Japan Strategic Dialogue. Oman was represented by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Foreign Minister. On the Japanese side, the meeting was attended by Takeshi Iwaya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The gathering highlighted the shared goals between the Gulf states and Japan in areas of development, peace, and cooperation.
Focus On Friendship And Cooperation
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen friendship and cooperation between Japan and the GCC states. They talked about the importance of deepening relations in areas such as trade, economy, and investment. The ministers agreed that these areas are the foundation of long-term partnership, helping both regions achieve shared interests. The discussion was linked to the joint action plan signed between the GCC and Japan, which will run from 2024 to 2028. This plan is seen as a roadmap to guide cooperation for the coming years.
Strengthening Economic And Trade Ties
The meeting placed strong emphasis on trade and economic partnerships. The ministers explained that both sides have advanced industries and strong markets. By working together, they can achieve mutual benefits. The Gulf states have energy resources and strategic logistics, while Japan has technology and global supply chains. Combining these strengths could create opportunities for growth in many sectors. Both sides showed interest in attracting investments that will support sustainable development and boost economic prosperity.
New Areas Of Cooperation
The ministers did not limit discussions to traditional trade and energy alone. They also talked about expanding into new and promising areas. Renewable energy was highlighted as a key sector, especially as the world moves toward cleaner sources of power. Other important areas included petrochemical industries, modern technologies, and logistics. The ministers agreed that cooperation in these fields would not only benefit their economies but also help in building a more sustainable and resilient future.
Shared Commitment To Development
The joint action plan between the GCC and Japan, covering the years 2024 to 2028, was seen as a strong commitment from both sides. The plan includes strategies to promote economic growth, support investment opportunities, and encourage innovation. It also aims to improve collaboration in supply chains, which are vital for international trade. Both sides agreed that by working together, they could face future challenges and make the most of new opportunities in the global economy.
Regional Peace And Security Discussions
The meeting was not limited to economic issues. The ministers also discussed important political and regional matters. A major focus was the Palestinian cause. The participants shared concerns about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. They spoke about the suffering caused by continuous Israeli aggression and the refusal to withdraw from Palestinian territories. This situation has prevented progress toward establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Support For The Palestinian Cause
The GCC states appreciated Japan’s clear stance in support of resolving the Palestinian issue. Japan has always called for solutions based on international law and United Nations resolutions. This support is viewed as a contribution to security and stability in the Middle East. It also shows Japan’s strong commitment to justice and peace in international relations. The Gulf ministers stressed that such cooperation is essential to help end the humanitarian crisis and move toward lasting peace in the region.
Role Of Japan In The Region
Japan’s role in the Gulf region was praised during the meeting. The ministers said that Japan has been a reliable partner, not only in trade and economy but also in political matters. Its balanced approach to international issues makes it a trusted friend of the Gulf states. The Gulf ministers noted that Japan’s efforts to support justice and peace add great value to the partnership. They also welcomed Japan’s willingness to work more closely with the GCC in the future.
Importance Of Expanding Horizons
One of the main themes of the meeting was the idea of expanding horizons of cooperation. The ministers agreed that the world is changing quickly, and new challenges are emerging. To face these changes, both sides need to go beyond traditional areas of partnership. By focusing on renewable energy, logistics, petrochemicals, and technology, the GCC and Japan can prepare for the future. This will also ensure that their cooperation is not only about trade but also about innovation and sustainable growth.
Kuwait Chairs The Meeting
The meeting was chaired by Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, the Foreign Minister of the State of Kuwait. As Kuwait currently holds the presidency of the GCC Ministerial Council, it hosted and managed the discussions. The GCC Secretary-General was also present. The meeting was seen as another step forward in strengthening ties between Japan and the Gulf region. It showed the shared commitment of all countries involved to work together on both economic and political levels.
A Step Toward Stronger Partnerships
The joint ministerial meeting between Japan and the GCC states highlighted the importance of friendship, cooperation, and mutual support. Oman’s participation reflected its active role in regional and international diplomacy. The meeting provided a platform to discuss not only economic opportunities but also the pressing humanitarian and political issues in the region. Both sides left the meeting with a renewed commitment to work closely together in building a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future.
