Oman Launches National School Evaluation System For Education

Post by : Mumtaaz Qadiri

The Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education is starting the first phase of the National System for School Performance Evaluation. This program will begin tomorrow and aims to improve the quality of education across the Sultanate. The initiative is part of Oman’s efforts to ensure that schools meet international standards and provide students with the best possible learning environment.

First Phase Covers 100 Schools

During the 2025-2026 academic year, the initial phase of the project will focus on 100 public and private schools. These schools have been selected from three educational governorates: Muscat, South Al Batinah, and Al Dakhiliyah. By starting with a limited number of schools, the Authority plans to test the system, gather data, and make improvements before expanding it nationwide.

Purpose Of The Evaluation System

The National System for School Performance Evaluation is designed to assess how well schools perform in various areas, including teaching quality, student learning outcomes, management efficiency, and the overall school environment. The system aims to identify strengths and areas for improvement in each school, helping school leaders make informed decisions that enhance education quality.

CEO Explains The System’s Importance

Dr. Jokha Abdullah Al Shukaili, CEO of the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education, explained that the new system represents a major step forward in developing education in Oman. She emphasized that it is a “qualitative leap” because it allows schools to be evaluated in a structured, professional, and fair manner.

Alignment With Oman Vision 2040

The evaluation system has been carefully designed to align with Oman Vision 2040, the Education Law, and the Education Strategy. These frameworks aim to improve education at all levels and ensure that students are prepared for the challenges of the modern world. The system will help schools meet these goals by providing clear benchmarks for success.

Contextual Approach For Omani Schools

Dr. Jokha Al Shukaili highlighted that the system is “contextual,” meaning it has been tailored to fit Oman’s unique educational landscape. This includes considering local culture, traditions, and educational priorities. By creating a system that suits Oman specifically, the Authority ensures that schools can realistically meet the standards and improve their performance.

Benefits For Public And Private Schools

Both public and private schools will benefit from this evaluation system. For public schools, it provides a framework for improving teaching quality and management practices. Private schools can use the system to maintain high standards, compete effectively, and demonstrate their quality to parents and the community. Overall, all schools will be encouraged to adopt best practices and focus on student success.

Preparing Schools For Evaluation

Before the evaluation begins, schools will receive guidance and support from the Authority. This includes workshops, training sessions, and resources to help teachers and administrators understand how the system works. By preparing schools in advance, the Authority hopes to make the evaluation process smooth, transparent, and constructive.

Data Collection And Analysis

The system will use data collection tools, surveys, and observation techniques to evaluate school performance. Information will be gathered on teaching methods, student engagement, learning outcomes, school leadership, facilities, and overall school environment. The Authority will analyze this data to create comprehensive reports for each school.

Using Reports To Improve Performance

The evaluation reports will provide schools with actionable feedback. Schools will receive clear guidance on what they are doing well and what areas need improvement. The Authority plans to work with schools to develop improvement plans, set targets, and monitor progress over time. This continuous feedback loop will help schools achieve higher levels of performance.

Encouraging Accountability And Transparency

One of the key goals of the National System for School Performance Evaluation is to promote accountability and transparency in education. By evaluating schools openly and fairly, the Authority encourages school leaders, teachers, and administrators to take responsibility for providing quality education. Parents and the community can also access information about school performance, which builds trust and confidence in the education system.

Supporting Teachers And Staff

Teachers and school staff play a vital role in improving education quality. The evaluation system will highlight their strengths and identify areas where professional development may be needed. Training programs, mentoring, and workshops will be offered to support teachers in adopting innovative teaching methods and improving student learning outcomes.

Improving Student Learning Outcomes

Ultimately, the main goal of this initiative is to enhance student learning. By evaluating schools, improving teaching methods, and supporting teachers, students will receive a better education. They will have access to modern learning techniques, well-managed classrooms, and a positive learning environment that helps them achieve their full potential.

Long-Term Vision For Oman’s Education

The National System for School Performance Evaluation is just one part of Oman’s long-term plan to improve education. By gradually expanding the program to cover all schools, Oman aims to create a strong, effective, and modern education system. This initiative is aligned with Vision 2040, which envisions a knowledge-based society where students are well-prepared for higher education, careers, and active citizenship.

The launch of the National System for School Performance Evaluation marks a significant milestone in Oman’s education development. With careful planning, a contextual approach, and strong support for schools, the system promises to enhance education quality, ensure accountability, and provide better opportunities for students across the country. By starting with 100 schools in three governorates, Oman is taking a measured and effective approach to improving its education system, creating a model that can be expanded nationwide in the future.
