Three US Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defence systems late Sunday during active combat operations in the region.
According to a statement from the United States Central Command, the aircraft were operating in support of Operation Epic Fury when they were brought down at approximately 11:03 p.m. ET on March 1.
The incident took place during ongoing hostilities involving reported attacks by Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones, creating a high-alert situation across regional defence networks.
All six crew members aboard the three jets successfully ejected before impact. They were later recovered safely and are reported to be in stable condition.
Kuwaiti authorities acknowledged the incident. The United States expressed appreciation for the support and response efforts of Kuwait’s defence forces during the operation.
An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the friendly fire incident. Further details are expected to be released as the inquiry continues.
