The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) say they have killed a Hezbollah fighter allegedly linked to the killing of Israeli reservist Major Itamar Sapir during clashes in southern Lebanon. The operative was reportedly identified inside a building in the Qaouzah/Qouza area before being struck in a combined tank and airstrike operation, the military said.
Major Sapir, 27, was killed earlier during fighting with Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon — the latest Israeli soldier to fall amid ongoing violence along the Israel‑Lebanon border despite ceasefire efforts.
Local and military reports say cross‑border exchanges continue, and independent verification of individual claims remains limited as both sides carry out strikes. The escalation underscores a volatile security situation that has seen repeated flare‑ups since the U.S‑brokered ceasefire took effect in April, with heavy bombardments, civilian displacement, and continued clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants.
