Iran and Oman held high‑level talks in Muscat and issued a joint statement reaffirming their sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz, while also stressing their commitment to ensuring safe, open and free navigation through the crucial waterway that links the Gulf to global trade. The two coastal states agreed to continue consultations and form a joint working group to discuss the future management of maritime navigation and services in the strait, in line with international law and regional cooperation.
The talks come amid broader discussions on regional stability and maritime security, as the Strait of Hormuz remains a vital corridor for about a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil and gas shipments.
