Iran’s national football team has arrived in Tijuana, Mexico, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, as ongoing U.S.–Iran tensions and visa complications forced the squad to base itself just across the U.S. border. The team held its first open practice session at its Tijuana camp and continues preparations ahead of its opening Group G match against New Zealand near Los Angeles on June 15.
Iran will also face Belgium and Egypt later in the group stage. The relocation from Tucson, Arizona, was confirmed as part of efforts to ensure the squad’s full participation in the tournament despite geopolitical challenges.
