Khamenei’s Final Journey Begins Coffin Displayed in Tehran Ahead of Mass Funeral

Iran has begun major funeral ceremonies for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with his coffin displayed in Tehran as large crowds gather to pay their final respects.

The week-long mourning events are expected to draw millions, with ceremonies planned in Tehran, Qom and Iraq’s holy cities of Najaf and Kerbala before the final burial at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad on July 9. Khamenei was reportedly killed in U.S. and Israeli strikes during the opening attacks of the war on February 28.
