Powerful 7.8 Earthquake Strikes Southern Philippines, Tsunami Alerts Issued

A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake has struck southern Philippines, causing widespread destruction and leaving at least 37 people dead, according to initial reports. The strong tremor was felt across several provinces, damaging buildings, roads, and critical infrastructure.

Authorities immediately issued tsunami alerts across parts of the Philippines and neighboring coastal regions as emergency teams rushed to assess the damage and assist affected communities. Rescue operations remain underway, with concerns that the casualty toll could rise as more information emerges from remote areas. The quake is among the strongest to hit the region in recent years, highlighting the Philippines' vulnerability to major seismic events along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
