Sicily Cyclone Garry 100kmh Winds 8m Waves Floods Evacuations

Sicily, Italy – Cyclone Garry battered Sicily with ferocious 100 km/h winds and towering 8-meter waves, unleashing severe flooding along the Mediterranean coast. Heavy rainfall triggered catastrophic coastal inundation, forcing mass evacuations across the island.

Transportation networks were severely disrupted, over 150 schools were closed, and emergency services struggled to keep pace with the unfolding crisis. Power outages, road blockages, and maritime disruptions added to the chaos.

Civil protection authorities mobilized to coordinate rescue operations and relief efforts as the storm exposed the vulnerability of the island’s infrastructure. Experts warn that climate change is intensifying Mediterranean cyclones, posing growing challenges for disaster management in southern Europe.
