A major diplomatic breakthrough may be unfolding in the Russia-Ukraine war as US President Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire and a massive 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange between both nations.
The temporary truce, set for May 9–11, comes amid ongoing international pressure to reduce hostilities and revive peace talks. Both Moscow and Kyiv have confirmed participation in the temporary halt in fighting, although concerns remain over how stable the ceasefire will be after repeated accusations of violations in previous truces.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the agreement as an important humanitarian step focused on bringing prisoners home safely. Trump called the agreement a possible “beginning of the end” of the long-running conflict, while global leaders continue watching closely for signs of broader peace negotiations. Analysts say the next few days could determine whether diplomacy gains momentum or fighting resumes at full scale.
