A major diplomatic moment is unfolding in Beijing as US President Donald Trump meets Chinese President Xi Jinping during his first official visit to China since 2017. The high-profile talks are expected to focus on trade, market access, tariff pressure, technology competition, Taiwan, and global energy security.
Trump is reportedly pushing for stronger access for American companies in China, more Chinese investment in the United States, and expanded agricultural exports such as soybeans and beef.
He is accompanied by major business leaders, including Elon Musk and CEOs from companies like Apple, Nvidia, and Boeing. For China, trade stability and relief from US tariff pressure remain key priorities, especially as Beijing looks to support economic confidence and long-term investment.
Taiwan is also expected to be one of the most sensitive issues, with China maintaining its claim over the island while the US continues arms support. The Iran conflict and global energy concerns may also feature in the talks, given the strategic interests of both countries. With a grand welcome at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, the meeting signals the high importance China places on this visit.
The world is now watching whether the Trump-Xi meeting opens a new chapter of cooperation or deepens existing tensions between the two global powers.
