Several areas across the Northern Emirates witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday as an active weather system moved through the UAE, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
Strong showers were recorded in Khorfakkan, Masafi, and Al Manama, with Fujairah’s mountainous regions seeing intense rainfall. The downpour led to water flowing across roads and low-lying areas, creating temporary streams in some locations.
The weather was marked by lightning, thunder, and thick cloud cover, especially along the east coast. While the rain brought cooler temperatures and a seasonal winter feel, it also raised safety concerns due to sudden water accumulation.
Weather Warnings in Place
The NCM has issued yellow and red weather alerts for parts of the Northern and Eastern UAE, warning residents to remain alert as unstable weather conditions continue. Convective clouds responsible for the rainfall may spread inland, with scattered showers possible in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah.
Cause of the Rainfall
Meteorologists say the weather is the result of a surface low-pressure system combined with upper-air instability, creating favourable conditions for rain clouds. Wind speeds may reach up to 40 km/h, which could reduce visibility and make driving conditions hazardous.
Forecast Ahead
Rainy and cloudy weather may continue through the weekend
Temperatures are expected to stay cooler than usual
High humidity at night and early morning may cause fog or mist
Weather conditions may remain changeable across the UAE
Residents are advised to follow updates from the NCM, avoid flooded areas, and drive carefully, especially during heavy rain and low visibility.
