The US military has released dramatic footage showing what it says was a strike on an alleged drug trafficking boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean. According to US Southern Command, the operation killed three people onboard the vessel, which officials claim was traveling along known narcotics smuggling routes.
The strike is part of an ongoing anti-narcotics campaign targeting suspected trafficking networks operating across Latin American waters. Reports indicate that at least 22 people have been killed since April in similar operations carried out in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific.
While US officials describe the missions as necessary to combat “narco-terrorism” and disrupt drug supply chains, critics and human rights organizations have raised concerns over the legality and transparency of the strikes, questioning the evidence linking the targeted boats to drug trafficking.
The operations highlight the increasing militarization of anti-drug efforts in the region amid broader geopolitical tensions and growing US military activity across Latin American waters.
