The United Arab Emirates, represented by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), participated in the fourth technical and ministerial meetings of the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group in Cape Town, South Africa. The UAE delegation was led by Ali Rashid Al Neyadi, Director-General of NCEMA.
The meetings brought together ministers, experts, and representatives of international and regional organisations to discuss strategies for disaster risk reduction and community resilience. The UAE’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting international efforts in preparedness and emergency response.
The UAE delegation took part in high-level technical and ministerial sessions covering key topics, including early warning systems, anticipatory financing, capacity-building, and enhanced cooperation between governments and international organisations. These discussions aimed to strengthen global collaboration in reducing disaster risks.
During the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Early Warning, Al Neyadi presented the UAE’s National Early Warning System. The system integrates artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to ensure rapid and precise emergency response, demonstrating the country’s innovation in disaster management.
The UAE also showcased initiatives that strengthen community resilience and support at-risk populations. These efforts involve proactive and integrated planning, addressing environmental, social, and economic dimensions to minimize the impact of disasters and improve national preparedness.
NCEMA shared the UAE’s experience in managing the COVID-19 pandemic through its publication, “The Road to Success – The UAE Model in Managing the COVID-19 Crisis.” The publication highlights anticipatory planning, institutional integration, and adaptive leadership in responding to global crises.
Al Neyadi emphasized that disaster risk reduction is a key pillar of the UAE’s national strategy for security and sustainability. He stressed the importance of international partnerships, innovative solutions, and harmonised early warning standards among G20 members to improve global coordination in major emergencies.
The UAE concluded its participation with bilateral meetings with other delegations and regional organisations. These discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange in disaster and risk management, reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to building resilient and sustainable systems worldwide.
Through its participation in the G20 meetings, the UAE continues to demonstrate leadership in disaster risk reduction. The country remains dedicated to advancing preparedness, promoting innovative solutions, and enhancing resilience for both national and international communities against future crises.
