UAE, Cyprus Leaders Discuss Regional Peace and Cooperation

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, held a telephone conversation to review the strong bilateral relations between their two nations. The leaders explored ways to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, focusing on economic development, sustainability, and regional stability.

Their discussion reaffirmed the shared commitment of the UAE and Cyprus to strengthen ties based on mutual respect, partnership, and shared goals for peace and progress in the region.

Focus on Strengthening Economic Cooperation

During the call, both leaders expressed their desire to enhance economic collaboration and explore new opportunities for investment and trade. They emphasized the importance of building on existing partnerships to promote innovation, clean energy, and sustainable development.

The conversation also touched on cooperation in infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy — areas where both nations have shown growing expertise. The leaders agreed that closer economic cooperation would benefit not only their two countries but also contribute to the stability and prosperity of the wider Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean region.

Discussion on Regional Developments

The two presidents also discussed important regional and international developments, with a special focus on recent events in the Middle East. They exchanged views on efforts to achieve peace, promote security, and support humanitarian causes in the region.

Sheikh Mohamed and President Christodoulides highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue and collective action to overcome regional challenges and ensure lasting peace. Both leaders stressed the role of diplomacy, cooperation, and humanitarian support in addressing crises affecting regional populations.

Support for the Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

A significant part of the discussion centered around the recent agreement to implement a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Both leaders welcomed the development and expressed hope that it would serve as a meaningful step toward de-escalation and long-term peace.

They underscored the importance of ensuring all parties adhere strictly to the terms of the ceasefire to prevent further violence and suffering. The leaders also emphasized the urgency of allowing safe, unhindered, and rapid delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.

Humanitarian Priorities and Civilian Protection

President Sheikh Mohamed and President Christodoulides both reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts that alleviate the suffering of civilians in conflict zones.

They agreed that aid delivery must be prioritized and safeguarded to ensure that food, medicine, and shelter reach those most in need. The leaders discussed the need for continued coordination between international humanitarian organizations to guarantee efficient and transparent assistance.

Commitment to a Lasting Peace Process

Both leaders reiterated their firm belief that a lasting solution to the conflict in Gaza and the broader Middle East lies in achieving a comprehensive and just peace based on the two-state solution.

They emphasized the need for renewed international efforts to advance peace talks, promote coexistence, and ensure the rights and security of all peoples in the region. Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s long-standing commitment to supporting peace initiatives that contribute to regional stability and prosperity.

President Christodoulides echoed this sentiment, stressing that Cyprus supports all efforts aimed at building a stable and secure Middle East where cooperation replaces conflict.

Shared Vision for Regional Stability

The call between the UAE and Cypriot leaders reflected a shared understanding of the importance of unity, dialogue, and partnership in promoting regional peace.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the growing partnership between their countries and agreed to continue coordination on international platforms. They also reaffirmed their intention to work together in promoting stability, sustainable growth, and humanitarian cooperation across the Mediterranean and Middle East.

The relationship between the UAE and Cyprus has continued to develop in recent years, with increasing collaboration across diplomatic, economic, and cultural fields. Both countries have a mutual interest in strengthening cooperation in energy transition, maritime security, and sustainable development.

The leaders concluded the discussion by reaffirming their commitment to building on this strong foundation, continuing communication, and exploring new ways to serve their peoples and contribute to global peace and progress.
