Govardhan Asrani, a cherished figure in Bollywood’s comedy scene, died at the age of 84 on Monday after bravely battling illness. His final rites were held at Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai. The loss of Asrani signifies the end of a remarkable era in Hindi cinema, where his impeccable comic timing and memorable expressions charmed audiences for decades. Over a career that spanned more than fifty years, Govardhan appeared in more than 350 films, leaving a profound imprint on Indian cinema. Asrani was an alumnus of the esteemed Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, who made his debut in Hindi films during the mid-1960s.
