Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State, participated in Monocle’s tenth Quality of Life Conference held in Barcelona. She joined a fireside chat with Tyler Brûlé, Editorial Director of Monocle magazine, and Andrew Tuck, Editor-in-Chief of Monocle. The discussion focused on the UAE’s approach to diplomacy, guided by its core values of openness, coexistence, and cultural exchange.

The conference is a premier global forum that brings together thought leaders, innovators, and visionaries from around the world. It provides a platform to discuss how to build inclusive, resilient cities and societies that create opportunities for everyone.

UAE’s Commitment to Openness and Dialogue

During the session, Minister Al Kaabi emphasized the UAE’s strong commitment to openness and coexistence. She explained that dialogue and diversity are central to the country’s growth and serve as guiding principles in its international relations.

She highlighted that embracing different perspectives and respecting other cultures lays the foundation for a peaceful and prosperous society. These values are not just theoretical; they are applied in diplomacy, education, and cultural projects across the UAE.

Abrahamic Family House: A Symbol of Coexistence

Al Kaabi cited the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi as a landmark initiative that represents interfaith dialogue and mutual respect. The project brings together different faith communities, demonstrating how shared spaces and cultural understanding can foster harmony.

The Abrahamic Family House is a clear example of the UAE’s belief that faith and culture can unite people. It shows how governments can promote peace not only through policies but also through practical initiatives that encourage citizens and residents to respect one another.

Culture as a Tool for Peace

The minister also discussed the role of culture in building understanding between communities. She highlighted UNESCO’s “Revive the Spirit of Mosul” project, which the UAE contributed to with US$50.4 million. The project is designed to restore cultural heritage in Mosul, Iraq, and demonstrates how shared history and traditions can strengthen peace and dialogue.

Al Kaabi explained that cultural projects create bridges between nations and communities, helping people see their common humanity. She stressed that investing in cultural preservation and exchanges is as important as traditional diplomatic efforts in creating stable societies.

Fighting Intolerance and Hate

Reflecting on global challenges, Al Kaabi noted the increasing threats posed by hate speech, racism, and other forms of intolerance. She said that these issues require urgent attention from the international community.

She mentioned that the UAE co-authored UN Security Council Resolution 2686, which aims to combat intolerance globally. By working together with other countries, the UAE demonstrates that it is possible to address hate and prevent future conflicts.

Dialogue and Inclusion for Global Peace

Al Kaabi emphasized the importance of welcoming diverse perspectives both locally and internationally. She stated that dialogue is a powerful tool to build trust and mutual understanding between people and nations.

Through global events and collaborative platforms, the UAE seeks to champion inclusiveness and cultural exchange. According to Al Kaabi, these efforts are essential for achieving stability, peace, and prosperity. She believes that fostering people-to-people connections lays the foundation for strong and resilient societies.

International Engagement and Cooperation

The minister further noted that the UAE’s international cooperation is built on shared values of respect, openness, and dialogue. By creating partnerships with other countries, the UAE demonstrates how economic, cultural, and social initiatives can contribute to global stability.

Al Kaabi pointed out that international engagement is not limited to governmental efforts. Citizens, cultural institutions, and private organizations also play a key role in promoting mutual understanding and sustainable development.

Monocle Quality of Life Conference

Monocle’s Quality of Life Conference, where Al Kaabi spoke, gathers global leaders to discuss pressing social issues. Topics at the event include inclusive city planning, sustainable development, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

The conference also explores how cities can balance economic growth with cultural preservation, social equity, and environmental responsibility. Al Kaabi’s participation highlighted the UAE’s commitment to being part of global solutions for these challenges.

The UAE’s Vision for a Peaceful Future

Throughout her discussion, Al Kaabi underlined the UAE’s long-term vision for peace, stability, and prosperity. She illustrated how the nation’s commitment to openness and coexistence guides policies at home and in international diplomacy.

By promoting dialogue, supporting cultural projects, and engaging with the global community, the UAE demonstrates that values-based leadership can create positive outcomes for both citizens and nations worldwide.

Leadership Through Values

The fireside chat at the Monocle Conference showed how the UAE combines diplomacy, culture, and social initiatives to build a more inclusive world. Minister Al Kaabi’s insights reaffirmed that embracing diversity and dialogue is central to achieving peace.

Her message was clear: sustainable progress comes from cooperation, understanding, and respect for all. Through cultural and diplomatic initiatives, the UAE sets an example for other nations, showing how values can guide leadership and create lasting impact.
